Prescribed Fires Planned April 18-21 In The Bessey Ranger District

As part of the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands goal to “keep the grasslands grass”, fire managers at the Bessey Ranger District plan on conducting one or more prescribed burns beginning Sunday, April 18 and concluding Wednesday, April 21. The burns could have an impact on recreational plans, so check out the maps below.

Campers, OHV riders, and general public: Expect the road closures shown to be in place anytime between Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening.

Rifle turkey hunters here for opening weekend: None of the burns are planned in forested areas but expect fire traffic traveling forest roads.

People with livestock: Please do not be camped in Natick with spooky livestock on Sunday as it will likely be used as a staging area for aircraft.

Forest Service staff will be out this weekend talking to visitors about the plans and closures, and the office will be open on Sunday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. If you have questions, please call the main office at (308) 533-2257.
