Possible Sweetheart Deal Apparently Off

Omaha, NE.—Concerns about a possible sweetheart deal involving the so-called “String of Pearls” now finds the Omaha City Council doing an about face.

The council has decided not to award an 85 thousand dollar a year (up to 10 years and nearly a million dollars) no-bid contract, for the upkeep of Abbott Drive, the road leading to and from the city’s front door.

As News Channel Nebraska previously reported, for the last several years one of city’s big-name charities, Kiewit Foundation, has paid one of the city’s best-known landscapers, Lanoha, to do the work.

Kiewit recently ended its contribution but still wanted Lanoha to get the job, an arrangement the council has now turned down.

Bids on the project will be taken at a future date.
