Police Chase Ends in Crash – Updated

NORFOLK - One person is in custody after a police chase in downtown Norfolk. The chase began just after 11:00 am on Tuesday when a 16-year-old fled from private transport staff and stole a car in a nearby parking lot. The youth had been in the custody of the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.  A Madison County Deputy was involved in a minor collision with the stolen vehicle before the car fled westbound. By the time the deputy and officers reached the 3400 block of Norfolk Avenue, the stolen car collided with a power pole and was in the ditch. The suspect was taken back into custody by the Madison County Deputy. Norfolk Rescue was called to the scene to evaluate and treat the 16-year-old for injuries from the accident. UPDATE: The juvenile male was arrested for felony escape, felony motor vehicle theft, felony leaving the scene of an injury accident, and 3rd degree assault.
