Platte County Sheriff Warns of New Scam Offering Money

COLUMBUS - The Platte County Sheriff's Office says a new scam that has popped up in the area, is offering residents a $99 refund. The Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook, that scammers are calling, and saying they are with Verizon, and are offering a $99 refund. The scammers then ask for you to confirm your phone number and pin number, says the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office says if you give them this information they will be able to access your account and will be able to make purchases through your phone account. If you believe you are being scammed, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency.
