Platte County District Court Judge Steinke to Sit In with Short-Handed Supreme Court

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Platte County District Court Judge Robert Steinke will head to Lincoln on Wednesday to hear cases with the Nebraska Supreme Court. Steinke is sitting in with the court because they are currently short-handed. One associate justice, Judge Max Kelch, resigned last month instead of facing an ethics investigation regarding comments to female staffers, according to the Omaha World-Herald. Another associate justice, Judge John Wright, has been out of the court with an illness. So Chief Justice Michael Heavican has invited several district court judges, including Steinke, to sit-in during oral arguments before a new judge is appointed to replace Kelch. The state's highest court is set to hear six cases on Wednesday.
