Phone Scammers Targeting NPPD Customers in Norfolk

COLUMBUS - Residents in northeast Nebraska are being put on alert after residents were targeted by scammers this week. Officials from Nebraska Public Power District say customers in Norfolk have been saying their getting calls from scammers posing as NPPD officials. The scammers say they are going to shut off the customer's power unless they pay money immediately over the phone. A similar scam was reported in the Chadron area late last week. NPPD officials say they never call customers and ask for credit card numbers and never demand payment via pre-paid card. Anyone who receives a call like this should hang up and call law enforcement.
