Litchfield Elementary students' request was granted on Tuesday, May 8 when
Peter H. Reynolds, of Massachusetts, signed onto Skype and answered all kinds of questions from students about being an author, illustrator, and about “being famous.”

The Dot inspired International Dot Day that is celebrated all over the world. It is a celebration of creativity that Litchfield students have taken part in for several years. This past fall the students collaborated to create a tree mural, using many dots, that hangs in the elementary school hallway. Students then sent a “scroll type” letter with photos of them creating this beautiful work and a request to Skype (video conference) with Peter H. Reynolds.

The renowned author/illustrator replied with a wonderful postcard praising the students for their mural and answering that he would love to meet the creators of the beautiful artwork!
On Tuesday morning, students gathered in the Spartan gym and the author inspired students and answered questions for 50 minutes straight. Litchfield elementary students heard tales of how books were dreamt up to how Mr. Reynolds originally met with success. He spoke of how he generates ideas, what drives him, and encouraged students to get started now with their creative endeavors.
Students asked questions from “What’s on your bucket list?” to “What do you like about being famous?” At the end Mr. Reynolds drew a wonderful picture of Vashti the star of one of his most famous books
The Dot and then he “signed it"--another theme from his children’s books where he teaches when you have worked hard and you are proud of something, “sign it.”
Students and teachers alike were very excited to meet
Peter H. Reynolds author and illustrator of more than 60 children’s books. Through his books he encourages children to create, to be confident, to dream big dreams, and to hope.
