Personal Property Tax Relief Act Eliminated For 2020; Property Tax Based On Full Value

On August 17, 2020, Governor Pete Ricketts signed LB1107 into law. Because it was passed with the emergency clause, it took effect the following day, August 18.

One of the provisions of the bill eliminates the Personal Property Tax Relief Act for tax year 2020  and each year thereafter. This eliminates the $10,000 exemption applied to the value reported on personal property returns. Taxpayers filing a personal property return in 2020 will have their property tax determined based on the full value of the personal property reported on the return.  This change will be reflected in the tax due amount on the 2020 Personal Property Tax Statements being mailed to constituents in December 2020.

If you have any questions about the tax amount, please contact Sheri Bryant, Custer County  Treasurer at 308-872-2921. If you have any questions about the assessment, please contact  Lana Lymber, Custer County Assessor at 308-872-2981.
