BROKEN BOW—Brisket, pulled pork, homemade cinnamon rolls…these and more can be found when visiting Papa Shawn’s Concessions and Catering. The family-oriented food truck business joined the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning. Following the ribbon cutting, Jeff and Samantha Hammond served lunch in the city square to event attendees, which included Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley and Senator Matt Williams.

“Definitely excited for today, being a member of the chamber. [I] Would like to thank my parents, my wife’s parents, and also definitely Ed and Vicky Oxford. Want to keep on with the tradition as far as what they did for Broken Bow. Doing lunch today, we have a menu online on our Facebook page. You can contact us by phone or email ([email protected]),” Jeff Hammond said.

The couple purchased the business from the Oxfords at the beginning of 2018 and plan to stay active this summer at various community events and at the fairgrounds. Samantha teaches in Lexington but is gearing up for the busy summer. Papa Shawn is her father and the couple said the idea for the name is thanks to their young nephew. Shawn will soon be retiring from teaching and will help with the business along with Jeff and Samantha’s mothers, Mary Harvey and Judy Hammond.

Jeff used to work in dining services as a sous chef and nutrition supervisor at hospitals in Omaha and Kearney. The couple moved to Broken Bow when the opportunity for the catering truck came about.

“[We’re] really excited. I know it’s been Jeff’s dream for a long time to own his own business and get to kind of work for himself so it’s exciting for him to have that opportunity. It’s a little crazy with me teaching full time but we’re making it work. Broken Bow is such a good community. And it feels like family and so we really wanted to be somewhere where it was like that, so we are really excited to be in Broken Bow,” Samantha Hammond said.
