BROKEN BOW–The 6th Annual Have a Heart Food Bank Challenge, organized by Adams Land & Cattle, LLC (ALCC) asked local businesses and organizations around Custer County to make a difference for local Food Banks. The Challenge, held February 11th- 22nd, was open to area businesses, schools, and civic organizations and provided donated food and other needed items to four local Food Pantries and the Ansley backpack program.
In all, 29 Custer County businesses and organizations participated, collecting 3,100 items for our Food Banks. These items, including food, personal hygiene items, paper products, and household cleaning items, were distributed among local Food Banks to assist them with necessary restocking of their shelves. The Ansley backpack program also received donations, which will help support their students with meals and snacks.
Area organizations were encouraged to compete against other organizations for the title of “Heart of Custer County Winners”, awarded to the organization within each category that donated that highest quantity of items. This year’s winners include:
Big Business: Custer Public Power District, 424 items
Small Business: Evans Feed, 132 items
Schools: North Park Elementary, 515 items
Churches/Clubs: Super Kids Club/Central Plains Center for Services, 209 items
Businesses that participated include: Adams Land and Cattle, Broken Bow Care & Rehabilitation Center, Bruning State Bank, Central Plains Center for Services, Custer County Historical Society, Custer Public Power District, Department of Health & Human Services, Evans Feed, Geared 4 Sports, Grocery Kart, Heritage Bank, Holcomb Pharmacy, KBEAR Country, Lillie Kate Boutique, Melham Medical Center, MPCC/Bellevue, Modern Edge Salon, Nebraska State Bank, North Park Elementary School, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Paulsen, Inc., Pearson Physical Therapy, Precious Angels Daycare, Presbyterian Church, Runza, Sargent Economic Development, Shopko, Team Physical Therapy, and Triple Blessed Boutique.
“We’re incredibly proud to be part of this effort by our community to assist our area foodbanks,” said President for ALCC, Abram Babcock. “Each year, we are amazed by the response from the community and our neighbor businesses and organizations. We truly appreciate everyone who participated and made an impact by giving back to the community in this way.”
The Have a Heart Food Bank Challenge, originally created in 2014 through the Custer County Leadership, has been sponsored and organized by ALCC for the past five years.
