SARGENT—The annual Sargent Fair and Chokecherry Jamboree drew a strong crowd last weekend. Sargent Chamber President Jackie Ropers estimated about 500 people in attendance during the parade with nearly 20 parade entries.

“The weekend went really well. We had a nice parade Saturday evening with several entries,” Ropers said.

The parade theme was “what’s your hashtag?” and the local VBS float was the overall winner with the theme “#FightFor” and then listed community members currently fighting cancer.

Ropers said the fair has been going on for approximately 70 years and the Sargent community has enjoyed the Chokecherry Jamboree portion for about 30 years.

The weekend featured an FBLA burger fundraiser, music in the park, putt putt, community church, horseshoes, waterfights, mouth-watering food, the Little Miss Chokecherry Contest, and of course the chokecherry pit spitting contest.

“The chokecherry jamboree part of the fair has been going on close to 30 years,” Ropers said. “It was a nice turnout and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was beautiful!”
