One Vehicle Accident near Berwyn on Saturday, May 7

BERWYN—A one vehicle accident was reported less than a mile west of Berwyn, Neb. at approximately 6:34 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), a gray 2010 Ford Edge was driven by Sharlene Peterson, age 65 of Dunning, when it left Highway 2. The driver was heading westbound on Highway 2 near mile marker 285 when she experienced a medical episode and lost control of the vehicle, according to the CCSO accident report.

The Ford Edge left the roadway on the south side of Highway 2 and continued through the field into the trees located southwest where it collided with a tree and came to a stop.

According to the CCSO, Peterson suffered abrasions above her right eyebrow. Passenger Roger Peterson, age 68 of Dunning, suffered no visible injuries and was able to exit the vehicle to signal for help.

Both occupants were transported from the scene to the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center by Broken Bow EMS. Hunters Towing and Repair was called to remove the disabled vehicle–which was totaled from the collision. The scene cleared about an hour later at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
