Officers Actions Found to Be Justified in Columbus Shooting

COLUMBUS - Columbus Police Chief Chuck Sherer says an internal investigation, of the officer involved shooting on 16th Street, has found both involved officers justified in their actions. Sherer released an update on the case on Thursday. Where says in the press release that Jorje Robledo, 24, is in stable condition after being injured in a gunfight with police, and is excepted to be released from the hospital within days. Sherer says "Upon his release, from the hospital, he will be taken in custody on both the Platte and Hall County warrants and remanded to the custody of the Platte County Sheriff. At that time it will be determined whether Mr. Robledo returns to the Platte County Detention Center or taken elsewhere, such as the State Penitentiary Diagnostic & Evaluation Center in Lincoln." Both officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave, until an internal investigation of the incident was completed and officers were cleared in mental and physical evaluations, said Sherer. "The internal investigation has revealed that the officer's actions in this incident were justified and within policy," said Sherer. Sherer says Sergeant Brad Wangler will complete his mental and physical evaluations after completing the recovery process, while the other officer involved, officer Jeff Anderson, has already been cleared. "I would like to offer our thoughts and prayers for the officers and the families of those touched by this incident, as well as those that live in the neighborhood and friends, relatives of the Robledo family. This unfortunate incident is trying for all of us," says Sherer. Sherer thanked the community for the support they've received, as well as the Columbus Fire and Rescue, Platte County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Columbus Community Hospital Staff, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, Deputy Chief Kerry Newmann, staff from the Omaha PD, and the Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police for their assistance throughout the process. .
