Officer Shot, Flown to Omaha After Serving Search Warrant

COLUMBUS - A Columbus police officer was shot twice, after attempting to serve a search warrant in the central part of town. Two officers went to the location of 3410 16th Street at 7:30 p.m., after a report that a wanted suspect was inside the home. The two officers approached the home, one from the front and one from the rear, says Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken. When the officers entered the home, one of them was confronted by a suspect with a rifle, say Thalken. One of the officers was shot twice, and the suspect was then shot as well, says Thalken. Both the officer and the suspect were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha to be treated for their injuries, said officials. There conditions were considered serious, with the officer considered in stable condition at the time of the transport.
