Nucor Donates 150K to Carson Cancer Center

Cancer somehow touches almost everyone’s life in some form or fashion, whether it be friend or family.

NORFOLK — Two of Norfolk’s biggest entities are teaming up to make care more comfortable for cancer patients. Nucor presented a check for $150,000 to Faith Regional Health Services’ Carson Cancer Center on Friday afternoon. Executive Director of the Faith Regional Health Services Foundation Jake Claussen says the hospital puts a priority on the patient’s service and Nucor’s gift will help them accomplish that goal. “It’s really helping us to take that to the next level so that our patients, who are already getting great care, can also get a great experience when they’re getting that care,” Claussen said. The funds come from Nucor’s annual golf tournament. The donation will support new chemotherapy chairs and help redesign the chemo suite to include music and tech features for iPads, TVs and radio. Rolling Mill Manager at Nucor Steel Matt Blitch says they wanted their donation to help the most people it could. “Cancer somehow touches almost everyone’s life in some form or fashion, whether it be friend or family,” Blitch said. “We felt like we had a greater impact with this chemotherapy suite.” Claussen says the comfortable suite will help patient’s mental well-being. “If both their physical and mental well-beings are taken care of because of that comfort level, we hope that their treatment will go well and they’ll get well better,” Claussen said.
