NPPD: Cooper Station Generates $112 Million

COLUMBUS - NPPD says it’s Cooper Nuclear Station, in southeast Nebraska, generates $112 million of economic output for the state of Nebraska. Nebraska Public Power says in a press release, that in addition to providing power, the station generates a steady amount of financial support for the surrounding area and throughout the state. “We know Cooper Nuclear Station provides around-the-clock power our customers expect,” said CEO and President Pat Pope. “But it’s important the public know the economic benefit and jobs it contributes to this part of the state.” NPPD says an analysis done by the Nuclear Energy Institue found the station anually generates a statewide economic impact of more than $112 million, as well as $66 million plus impact on Cass, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, and Richardson counties. NPPD says the study also predicted that between now and 2034, the station will have a $1.2 billion impact on the state, and $675 million impact on the five counties listed above. NPPD says the station employs 680 individuals, 550 of those living within Nebraska.
