Norfolk Unemployment Rate Drops as Nebraska Holds Steady

LINCOLN - Jobless figures in the Norfolk area are dropping again. State labor statistics released Friday show that the unemployment rate for Madison, Pierce and Stanton counties fell two-tenths of a percent in August to 2.7. That's also lower than August of last year by two-tenths. But the decrease has less to do with more jobs in the area than it does with less people looking for work. The Labor Department says the Norfolk area's labor force fell by almost 400 people, which translated to 326 fewer people employed. Statewide the unemployment rate was unchanged at 2.8 percent. The national unemployment rate stood at 4.4 percent.
