Norfolk Seeking Feedback on Sanitary Sewer Plans

NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk is trying to position itself for continued growth. One way city officials say they are doing that, is with a planned extension of the city’s sanitary sewer line farther into the northwest part of the city.

“The extension would start a little bit to the west of Highway 81 and would extend over, terminating at 25th Street,” said city Public Works Director Steve Rames. “In the future that would be able to be extended further into the northwest and be able to provide service for future development.”

That part of town has already been pegged for future development, one of which is the proposed Blackberry Heights subdivision currently slated to be put in off of 25th Street.

“We’ve had the comprehensive plan updated and a housing study completed in the last couple of years,” Rames said. “That area was targeted for growth in both of those, so will provide services to meet those needs.”

The City will be unveiling their plans for the sewer extension at an open house on Wednesday. James says the feedback they get at the open house will inform future projects as well.

“We want to understand how the public wants to help us grow and how we can facilitate that growth,” Rames said.

The open house will be held Wednesday evening at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk.
