NORFOLK - Area elementary students are getting experiences that ag leaders hope they’ll carry with them forever.
The Norfolk High School FFA hosted its annual Baby Animal Farm event at the Chuck Pohlman Ag Complex on Friday.
Students from elementary schools all over Norfolk got hands-on experience with farm animals. FFA students say it’s a way to give kids that wouldn’t get one otherwise a glimpse of the farm life.
“We want to educate - even at the kindergarten level - as much as we can about ag,” said Norfolk FFA student Kari Labenz. “Although they might not live on a farm, there is a farm life outside of the city."
Students say it’s a way to bring kids closer to an ag industry that affects their lives every day.
“I’m big into ag and I love how it impacted me,” said FFA student Alison West. “As a little kid I think that would be more exciting, give them more opportunities in life and let them see what’s actually out there."
Baby Farm Animal day has been a collaboration between Norfolk’s high school and elementary school students for decades.
