Newman Grove wraps up Shell Creek Valley Days with #NebraskaStrong-themed parade

NEWMAN GROVE – From fire trucks to tractors and everything in between, the residents of Newman Grove came together for a parade as part of the 11th annual Shell Creek Valley Days. This year’s parade meant a little more, however. 2019’s theme was Nebraska Strong.

“Newman Grove was devastated by the flood,” parade organizer Dan Schroeter said. “We had some low-lying areas and some homes get flooded pretty bad. That’s why they came up with this theme. It was a natural fit for them.”

The parade ended the three-day celebration. The weekend included a variety of activities such as live music, a kids carnival, fireworks and even some mutton busting. All the events combined with the nice weather drew people from Newman Grove and the surrounding communities.

“The weather has been really favorable,” Schroeter said. “We don’t always get that so attendance has been real good.”

Newman Grove was hit hard by the flooding in March and the community is still recovering. For Sunday’s parade, however, there was not a cloud in the sky. The crowds got a chance to take a breath and just enjoy their weekend.

“It’s great,” Schroeter said. “We’ve had a lot of kids in town and that tells us that our town is alive. We really appreciate that.”
