COLUMBUS – Walk With a Doc kicked off it’s first event in Columbus on Tuesday, and saw a good turnout while avoiding area storms.
The night was dry for attendees of the inaugural monthly event that took place around Lake Esther. Dr. Luke Lemke says Walk With a Doc has several chapters around the nation, and says they hope it will provide a good resource for those who want to find new ways to get active.
“Basically what we are trying to do is get different providers to come out and walk for an hour with their patients or whoever wants to show up. So we had about 50 people show up tonight for a first one. It’s really, really exciting.
Occupational Health Services Director Danielle Frewing says this event fits right inline with their goal of promoting proactive health.
“This is an awesome way to get people out into the community. It’s at no charge. Getting out and walking. Developing camaraderie with your neighbors, friends, people you’ve never even met before, and just developing a sense of community,” says Frewing.
The events will be held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
