New Flavors Hit the Plate for CHS, CMS Students

COLUMBUS - Columbus High School and Middle School students get the chance to taste a special lunch time meal once a month. Lunchtime Solutions Food Service Director Bryce Bonet says, once a month at both schools, they provide a chef demo, which involves a chef cooking a specially designated meal for students. "It really is to expand their pallets, To open up kids minds to preparing food at home, preparing food in their real lives. To see that it really isn't as easy as just going through line and grabbing a burger, or a piece of pizza, or the home style line, but it's to expand their pallets," says Bonet. The service has continued to grow in popularity in it's second year, and Bonet says some meals that might sound less appealing to younger kids, got great reviews. "It depends on each month. I really thought the vegetarian stir fry, a couple of months ago, would get a lot of negative response, but kids really ended up liking it a lot. So each month they come up, they purchase their plates in line, they walk up, they hand us their black plate, and they're happy to have some," says Bonet. The chef demo was at the middle school on Monday, and will next be visiting the high school this week.
