New Era Begins with Inclusive Playground Ribbon Cutting

COLUMBUS - Officials cut the ribbon on Columbus' new inclusive playground, and marked another milestone for the city on Tuesday. The ribbon cutting was held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, at the playground located on the southern side of Lost Creek Elementary School. The ribbon cutting marks a new milestone for Columbus, and the playground equipment is designed to provide a fun time for children with all levels of mobility. Lost Creek Special Educator Megan Johnson was an instrumental part in making the inclusive playground a reality, and she began the ceremony Tuesday by thanking everyone involved in the multi-year process leading to the grand opening. "We {CPS special education teachers] are so thankful to be the team that gets to provide this for our kids and their families. We just hope it will be a testament of love and support from our community," said Johnson at the grand opening. "We just want each and every one of you to know that you're loved, you're supported, and we love your babies. We are so thankful that we get to be the ones that teach and work with them." The closest inclusive playgrounds outside of Columbus, are in Omaha and Kearney, says CPS release. The project was a culmination of work between the Lost Creek Special Education Department, the CPS Special Education Director, as well as various community members who donated both their time and money.
