Nebraska State Racing Commission gives approval on simulcast betting

LINCOLN, Neb. Betting on live simulcast horse racing was all supposed to be shut down at Nebraska's four race tracks. But, as of New Year's Eve at 11:45 P.M. they approved it to stay. "We make the majority of our revenue off of simulcast betting here in Lincoln," said Christy Harris, General manager at Lincoln Race Course. The Commission had previously stated the simulcasting needed to stop by December 31st because of the dispute over Fonner Park Race track in Grand Island. "We were hoping that we wouldn't miss a day of simulcasting, and we didn't," said Harris The dispute between Fonner and Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association was a federal lawsuit becasue they couldn't come together on an agreement. "It's between the horses and trainers," said Todd Stinison, horse breeder. Simulcasting allows someone in Nebraska to bet on live races happening at tracks in New York or California.
