Nebraska City man dies after rollover crash on U.S. Highway 75; he was ejected, then hit by a truck

A 30-year-old man died early Sunday when he was ejected in a rollover crash and was hit by another vehicle on U.S. Highway 75 in Sarpy County.

Matthew Sharon of Nebraska City was pronounced dead at the Nebraska Medical Center. Deputies from the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Bellevue Fire Department responded to the scene south of Fairview Road at 1:40 a.m.

Investigators determined that Sharon was alone and southbound on Highway 75 in a 2015 Dodge Journey when it left the roadway and entered the median. The vehicle rolled, ejecting Sharon onto the roadway.

A southbound 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Justin Kirk, 38, of Plattsmouth struck Sharon. Neither Kirk nor his passenger was injured.

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash with the assistance of the South Metro Crash Response Team.
