NE Nebraska Utility Customers Surprised by Refund Checks

JACKSON - Given the way things work nowadays, it isn't always a good idea to trust a random check that shows up in the mail - but for some northeast Nebraskans, it's the real deal. Customers in Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company's coverage area were recently surprised by checks mailed to them ranging from $500 to $1,000. NNTC is a co-op, which gives them the ability to offer capital credit refunds to their customers as the financial standing of the company allows. NNTC officials say the credits were a long time coming. They reflect the amount of money customers paid for telecommunications services in 2006. Joni Merical with NNTC says they've been able to find most of their customers from eleven years ago, but did have 100 checks returned with no forwarding address.
