UPDATE: Crofton Man Dies in Cedar County Semi Crash

CEDAR COUNTY, NE — A Crofton man is dead after a semi vs. pickup crash in northeast Nebraska.

Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda says deputies responded to multiple reports of an injury accident near Highway 81 about two miles south of Yankton, SD shortly before noon.

Sheriff Koranda says 28-year-old Kyle Mueller of Crofton was driving southbound on Highway 81 when he attempted to turn east towards 898th road.  While turning, Mueller’s pickup collided with a semi driven by 28-year-old Scott Howard of Norfolk.

Mueller was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt.

Howard was uninjured.  He was wearing a seat belt.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Crofton Fire & Rescue, Yankton Fire & EMS and the Nebraska Department of Transportation all responded to the scene.  Part Highway 81 was shut down as the accident was cleaned up.

The crash remains under investigation.
