Moving Day at the Broken Bow Library

Moving Day at the Broken Bow Library
Books filled every available tabletop as volunteers and staff moved books back to the main building on Monday morning
BROKEN BOW—Today marks the beginning of the end for the Public Library! After more than nine months in a temporary location, the library staff and volunteers are taking advantage of this nice weather and beginning the moving process. Library Director Joan Birnie said the goal for Monday is to get the books moved from one location to the other, and then start on relocating the shelving units. This is made possible thanks to the dedicated staff, city crews, and numerous volunteers. “We’ve had a lot of great volunteers show up here at the downtown building and someone said there are a lot of people down at the temporary facility. Thank you to everyone who ventured out, it’s going to be a perfect day for moving books,” Birnie said. Assistant Director Megan Svoboda and Children’s Service Coordinator Kim Blackburn developed a system to move books and to keep them in proper order as best as possible. Multiple trailers full of books have traveled between the temporary Industrial Park Drive location and the new $2 million expansion project downtown. Approximately 4,000 square feet were added to the original space. Volunteers are greatly appreciated and encouraged to call Joan Birnie at 308-870-4069 with any questions. An appreciation event is being held for anyone who donated to the project on Friday, January 26, 2018. That evening, organizers plan to unveil the donor wall in the new facility. A ribbon cutting and open house for the public will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018. The doors will open Monday, January 29 to serve the public.
