WINNEBAGO - Wildlife officials are confirming a mountain lion sighting in northeast Nebraska. A Facebook post by the Winnebago Wildlife and Parks Department says that a confirmed photo of a mountain lion was taken near BIA 51 Road east of Winnebago on Thursday. WL&P Director John Snowball says a deer kill was reported in that same area. Morgan said a trail cam he has set up caught the lion as it walked past. Snowball says that human encounters with mountain lions are extremely rare, due to their territorial nature. Despite that, the Winnebago Wildlife and Parks Department is restricting anyone from entering or coming near any woodland or grassland until further notice.
