Missing 70-year-old South Bend woman’s body is found in Platte River

The body of a 70-year-old woman who had been reported missing was found Friday evening in the Platte River.

The woman was identified by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office as Sandra Root of South Bend, Nebraska.

Root had been reported missing on Sunday. Weather hampered searches earlier this week, but on Friday relatives spotted a body in the river. The Yutan Water Rescue Team retrieved the body and identification was made.

The Cass County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said there were no signs of foul play at Root’s home.

According to authorities, Root was last seen on March 2. A daughter, Jessie Root, reported her missing on March 4. Various agencies had helped search for her.
