Military Veteran Gragert Running for District 40 Senator

CREIGHTON, NE — Last year Tim Gragert retired after 40 years of military service but he isn’t ready to be done serving his country.

The veteran and Creighton-native is one of four candidates running to replace term-limited Tyson Larson and represent District 40 in the Nebraska legislature.  Gragert says his military experience sets him apart from the other candidates.

“I feel it gives me the strengths as far as in the communication and coordination it takes to represent the constituents of the 40th District,” Gragert said.

Gragert deployed four times and spent the majority of his service as a MEDEVAC helicopter pilot.

As a civilian, Gragert worked as a soil conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which he says gives him a solid base in ag knowledge.  If elected, he says he would work through the NRD to get cost-share money to help conservation practices.

“(I’m specifically interested in) water quality - nitrates in our waters,” Gragert said.  “I want to push for cleaning up our waters and water quality.”

He says the top concern for constituents is high property taxes but he hasn’t seen a proposal he likes yet.  He is cautious about the petition circulating to put reform on the November ballot.

“We will want to be very careful with that petition because it may turn out to be something that’s not going to help us in the 40th district,” Gragert said.

The Republican has also been a part of the local fire department and has served on the Creighton School Board for over 12 years.  The primary election is on May 15th.
