Mason City Man Appears in County Court for Five Counts of Animal Neglect

BROKEN BOW— Bruce L. Hahn, 61 of Mason City, appeared in County Court on five counts of cruel neglect of an animal, class IV felony. Court documents allege that Hahn is charged with intentionally, knowingly or recklessly abandoning or cruelly neglecting an animal causing serious injury, illness or death of the animal between July 2013 and May 2, 2016. A PR bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for November 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Many misdemeanor cases were heard in county court on Monday, October 16. Few felony cases were heard including that of Rebecca A. Bauman, 23 of Grand Island, who was sentenced to one year of probation. Marshal Marshall, 35 of Broken Bow, and his attorney Bergan Schumacher waived a preliminary hearing for alleged possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in December 2016, a class ID felony. Marshall’s case will be bound over to District Court.

Kenneth L. Pierce, 60 of Oconto, and his attorney Mike Borders waived a preliminary hearing. Pierce is scheduled to appear in District Court on October 19.

Stephen C. Thomas, 30 of Broken Bow, appeared on the complaints of driving under suspension, possession of an open container, and driving under the influence fourth offense aggravated a class IIA felony. A continuance was granted for November 13 at 2 p.m.

Other cases of the day were continued.
