Mason City Homecoming this Saturday and Sunday

MASON CITY–Town festivals might be coming to an end this summer but Mason City is just getting started! The annual Homecoming weekend is scheduled for this weekend July 20 and 21.

The Saturday morning parade will begin at 10 a.m. with the theme “Nebraska Strong: How We Come Together.” Register on the corner of Calhoun and Prentiss Street.  Call Angie Ryan at 308-882-8877.

A special ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m. to celebrate the new playground in Mason City. (Click here to view the playground story.) Five-year-old Lauren Sawyer hopes everyone will come play on the new equipment!

“I hope a lot of people come to homecoming and really want to play on that playground,” Lauren said.

Also on Saturday, July 20: Firemen BBQ 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the community building, Tractor Pull at 1 p.m., Kids Carnival Games with bounce houses and prizes from 1-8 p.m., Strohl Food Truck at 5 p.m., Show and Shine from 5-7 p.m.

Donna Hoblyn-Bittner talked about how the goal this year at the fireman BBQ is to run out of food!

“Come out and support your local volunteer fire department because they are crucial for the community,” said Hoblyn-Bittner

The Ugly Truck Competition will be from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday night followed by the annual Turtle Races and Kids Races, Cake Walk, and an outdoor showing of Toy Story at 9:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall.

Sunday, July 21: Community Church Program at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park, 12:30 Alumni Dinner–call kay Schall for details at 308-872-6268, Horseshoe Tournament at 1 p.m. at Sims Park, and a movie at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.
