Man Who Avoided A Deer Is Run Over By A Car

BERWYN— A man was driving west-bound on Highway 2 when things went from bad to worse. Mark Lewis, 56 of Litchfield, was driving his motorcycle west on Highway 2 on Saturday, October 20 at approximately 6:30 A.M. when he swerved to avoid crashing into a deer. Lewis was unable to correct after swerving and the bike overturned near mile maker 285.

Lewis and the motorcycle were both lying in the roadway when a passerby stopped and called 911. While the passerby was on the phone with the 911 operator, Joseph Peterson, of Loup City, was also traveling west on Highway 2, when he came upon the accident. Peterson was unable to stop and swerved to avoid the motorcycle, but in the process accidentally ran over the legs of Lewis.

Lewis was transported to Jennie M. Melham. Memorial Medical Center by Broken Bow Fire and Rescue, where he was then air lifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. No other information is known at this time.
