Man to be Sentenced for Beating up Woman

COLUMBUS - A Columbus man is set to be sentenced on Friday for a felony assault charge, after an incident back in August. Cristian Burgos plead guilty to felony 3rd degree assault, while charges for strangulation, terroristic threats, and use of a deadly weapon were dismissed, says court records. The charge stems from an incident back in August, where Burgos was alleged to have beaten up a woman in her home. READ THE INITIAL ARREST STORY BELOW COLUMBUS – A man, previously convicted of assault, is back in court, after allegedly threatening to kill a woman with a pair of scissors, before stealing her pickup. Cristian Burgos, 27, of Columbus, is facing four felony charges, after an incident in early August, and is set to make a felony status appearance in Platte County Court on Monday. The Columbus Police Department was called to a residence in south-central Columbus, on August 9th, for a reported dispute, says an arrest affidavit. Police responded and found the interior of the house had been damaged in several places, says the affidavit. The woman told police, that Burgos had entered and wrecked the house while she was in the shower, and hit her several times, before threatening to kill her with a pair of scissors he had pointed at her stomach, according to the affidavit. Police found several bruises on the woman’s body, says the affidavit. Burgos allegedly then showed the woman a gun he had tucked in the waistband of his pants before leaving the residence, and taking the woman’s truck, which was valued at $15,000, says the affidavit. Burgos was arrested Sunday on Highway 81 near 310th Street, on several warrants, by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. Court records say Burgos has previously been convicted of 3rd degree assault in Madison County back in 2015. Burgos faces felony charges for assault, terroristic threats, strangulation, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Burgos faces a maximum sentence of 59 years in prison, if convicted on all charges.
