Man Pleads Guilty to Drunkenly Firing Gun at Home

COLUMBUS - A Columbus man is facing 51 years in prison after drunkenly firing a gun at a local home. James Chollar, 62, plead guilty to a class 1D felony charge for possession of a firearm by a felon, and 2nd offense DUI. Chollar fired a gun at a house in Columbus, back in August, and then fled the scene in a Chevy S10 pickup. Chollar was later arrested at the Highway 81/30 Junction, with a .170 blood alcohol content. Police also found a .22 caliber revolver with 8 spent shells and 1 full round in the gun. Chollar faces a minimum sentence of 3 years in prison and a fine, with a maximum of 51 years in prison. COLUMBUS – A local man was arrested for DUI and weapon possession after reports that he fired a gun at house in Columbus on Tuesday. An arrest affidavit says authorities were looking for a man in a Chevy S10 Pickup, after he reportedly fired off a gun towards a house in Columbus. CPD say the initial reports, for shots fired, came in near 26th Avenue and 8th Street at 2:22 p.m. The arrest affidavit says, reports came in from local dispatchers stating the pickup had left city limits. James Chollar, 62, was eventually pulled over at the Highway 81/30 junction south of Columbus, says court records. A Platte County Deputy states that he found a .22 caliber revolver, with 8 spent shells and 1 full round in the gun, on the passenger seat of Chollars pickup. The deputy removed the gun, and took Chollars into custody, says the affidavit. Chollars tested positive for .170 blood alcohol content and was arrested for 2nd offense DUI and a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Chollars is scheduled to make a felony first appearance in Platte County Court on September 13th at 10:30 a.m.
