Man Jailed in Columbus for Toddler’s Death In Omaha, Charged with Jailhouse Assault

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Bellevue man who was sentenced to 30-40 years in prison for his role in the death of a two-year-old girl, has been charged with assaulting an inmate in Platte County, a felony. 26-year-old Armond Floyd is accused of fighting fellow inmate Morshawn Hawkins in early January. Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says both suffered minor cuts and scratches in the incident. Floyd is in prison after being convicted of felony child abuse in Sarpy County, after he slammed a two-year old child into a door frame, which eventually killed the toddler, according to court records. He is housed in Platte County jail instead of a prison due to overcrowding. Hawkins has also been charged with felony assault. Floyd is next due in court on March 14th.
