Man and Woman Accused of Keeping Meth Near a Child in Butler County

DAVID CITY, Neb. - Butler County authorities say a man and woman from Lincoln kept meth near a child in an SUV and then the woman told the boy to lie to police. 30-year-old Benjamin Simmons and 29-year-old Jessica Simmons are both charged with felony child abuse, possessing meth and misdemeanor false reporting. Records say their SUV was pulled over in late January on Highway 15 in Butler County. Eventually a deputy was told there were drugs inside the vehicle and he located: a glass pipe with meth residue, 13 insulin needles, a children's cup with meth inside of it and a false book containing a $1 bill with residue on it. Documents say some of the items were within the reach of the seven-year-old child on board. The deputy says the child said that he was told to lie about the name of his mother, Jessica Simmons. Records say both Benjamin and Jessica Simmons lied to police about her name, as well. Jessica Simmons was also charged with felony tampering with a witness. The two head to court for an arraignment hearing next month.
