NORFOLK — A longtime Nebraska newspaper editor will retire this summer.
Norfolk Daily News editor and vice president Kent Warneke announced this week that he will retire later this summer. The Daily News says Warneke started with the Omaha World-Herald in 1982 and became the managing editor of the Daily News in 1987. He became editor and vice president in 1992.
Sports editor Jay Prauner, regional editor Jerry Guenther and news editor Tim Pearson will lead the newspaper’s transition. Publisher Bill Huse told the Daily News he will consider internal and external candidates to replace Warneke.
Warneke is a heavily decorated news man. He received the Master Editor-Publisher Award from the Nebraska Press Association this year, the group’s highest award. Warneke was inducted into the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also inducted into Omaha Press Club’s Journalists of Excellence Hall of Fame this year.
