Lightning Strike Breaks Gas Line in Columbus

COLUMBUS - Black Hills crews are working near downtown after lightning struck the ground in Columbus.

Black Hills Energy says technicians responded to 10th Street and 21st Avenue for a lightning strike just after 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. BH says safety is their highest priority and says they are working to repair a damaged gas line from the strike. “As a reminder, if you smell natural gas in your area, leave immediately and then call 911 or Black Hills Energy’s emergency line at 1-800-694-8989. Natural gas has a distinct rotten-egg like smell that enables leaks to be easily detected,” says the release.
