Library Surplus Auction Raises More than $6,000

BROKEN BOW—SOLD! The Broken Bow Public Library and Jim Christen Auctions, LLC teamed up to host a successful surplus auction on Saturday morning—collecting a total of $6,237.90 to be donated to the library.

Surplus items that did not make the trip to the new library location and other city department surplus items were included in the auction. Jim Christen reported that the children’s reading gazebo sold for $425. Other top selling items included a single box of books for $330 and a Solomon Butcher third edition book for $100.

Christen reported a “very good” auction with people traveling as far as Lincoln and Omaha to bid on items, all of which were sold.

City Administrator Brent Clark reported that Jim Christen Auctions conducted the auction for half of its regular commission. A huge thank you goes out to Jim Christen Auctions, Don Wolford, the city, and the Library Foundation.

“Such a neat project to finally see come to fruition. We started talking about this over 10 years ago. And it’s just fantastic—the support of the community and the city to finally see this come full force and enjoy all our hard work, it’s been a long time coming. But it’s great to see it finally come to be what it is,” Foundation President Beth Pracht said.

Foundation President Beth Pracht said attendance has been up since moving into the space and one of the first events held in the multipurpose room—the Daddy Daughter Date Night—was also well attended.

“It’s just been better than we can even imagine. It’s just beautiful. If you haven’t been down you need to stop in. Lots of space and activities for the kids. It doesn’t even look like the same place. It’s wonderful,” Pracht said.
