A Loup City man died last week in a head-on collision on Highway 92.

Sherman County Sheriff Michael Jepsen told Local4 Thursday that Jimmy Kusek, 79, was killed when the minivan he was riding in collided head-on with a semi. The accident happened Feb. 12 at approximately 10 a.m. about 1.5 miles west of Loup City.

The van’s driver, Edith Kusek, 55, of Loup City, and a passenger Cecelia Kusek, 76, were injured and were taken to CHI-Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney. The semi driver, James Fultz, 62, of York, was uninjured.

Jepsen said the semi was westbound and the minivan was eastbound. He said it was snowing at the time and that section of the highway was snow-packed. Jepsen said everyone was wearing a seat-belt at the time of the accident.

Jepsen said the Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the accident.

The Sherman County Sheriff’s office, NSP, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Nebraska Department of Transportation and the Loup City Fire and EMS department assisted at the scene of the accident.
