Kids Learn Safety Lessons, Hang with Law Enfocement Saturday

COLUMBUS - Kids got the chance to hang out with law enforcement, as well as learn safety lessons in a fun way. Families gathered outside Mikes Auto in west-central Columbus, where they got the chance to participate in various activities, and check out various demonstrations. Demonstrations included a safety belt ride and a presentation on power lines, among others. Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says the relationship with law enforcement in Columbus is good, but officers always enjoy the chance to get to hangout with the local children. "It's fun to be out here with the kids, and have them come up and talk to you a little bit. I think the kids enjoy getting to see somebody in uniform, they enjoy getting to see a police car, and getting the opportunity to climb up inside one and look around. It's fun to do, anything you can do with kids, strengthening that relationship with kids is very important," says Wemhoff. The special Columbus Community Hospital event also had various booths set up indoors and ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
