Update: One Key Democrat Won’t Back Pelosi

I was just in D.C. and that’s the advice everybody gives: Don’t say you’re for Pelosi.

- Brad Ashford

Omaha, NE.—When Republican Congressman Don Bacon was running and eventually winning the Omaha House seat in 2016 then-Congressman Brad Ashford wasn't his only opponent: Bacon was also running against Nancy Pelosi. In their last debate Bacon linked Ashford to the House Minority Leader half a dozen times. It's not clear if Bacon gets to play the same game this fall as Ashford isn't saying where hef stands on Pelosi. [caption id="attachment_1425495" align="alignright" width="300"] Brad Ashford            Kara Eastman[/caption] According to the New York Times, if Ashford wins his job back in November he won't rule out backing Pelosi. News Channel Nebraska has asked Eastman's campaign, "If elected would Kara Eastman support Pelosi?" So far, no comment. But according to her Facebook page Eastman is ready to "support a new House leader in 2019." All this comes on the heels of Democrat Conor Lamb's apparent win in last week's special House election in Pennsylvania, where Lamb said he wouldn't back Pelosi.
But Pelosi has downplayed any linkage:
"I don't think (Lamb) ran against me the entire time...I think he ran on his positive agenda....One candidate in Texas came out and said he would not be for me, and he came in fourth. So let's not read too much into this."
Last summer when asked by News Channel Nebraska if Pelosi was a “drag” on the party, Jane Kleeb, Chairperson of the Nebraska Democratic Party, defended Pelosi: “She is not a drag at all...Rep. Pelosi is a role model for women and I won’t let any Republican mail piece or negative ad bully us into saying otherwise."
In his recent interview with the New York Times, Ashford made it clear that Democrats in the nation's capitol are convinced Pelosi is toxic: “I was just in D.C. and that’s the advice everybody gives: Don’t say you’re for Pelosi.” Follow Joe on Twitter and Facebook Joe Can Be Heard: Wednesday: Fairbury 8:00am KUTT 99.5-FM Thursday: Norfolk 8:10am US92-FM, 8:28 KNEN-AM 94.7, Nebraska City 8:55am KBIE 103.1-FM Friday:  Beatrice 8:10am KWBE 1450-AM, Broken Bow “Breakfast Show” KCNI 1280-AM/KBBM 95.3-FM, Lincoln 7:10am KLIN 1400-AM
