SYRACUSE - The Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Junior High Student Council presented a check worth $1,000 to the Community Memorial Hospital Foundation on last week. “The kids (hosted a fundraiser) with postcards of items that family members and others could purchase with a portion of the proceeds coming back to the Junior High Student Council," student council sponsor Sallie Agena said. "From there, the group discussed where to donate with wanting to keep it local.  The hospital was a good choice.” Jerry Siefken, one of several volunteers on-hand to receive the donation, referred to the students efforts as “admirable”. CMH Foundation Directory Laura Lea Fossenbarger says all donations are special to the foundation, but this gift was “extra special,” because it was driven by youth in the local community. “I’m in awe of this generous act from our youth.  It is very rewarding to see students recognizing the value and need of local, rural healthcare, and working to support the cause.  Just as we are, our community should be very proud of these outstanding young people making a difference for future generations.” The funds will go towards the construction of the new replacement medical campus.
