Joy Ride Leads to Felony Theft Charge for Columbus Man

COLUMBUS - A Columbus man is back in court this week, for a felony theft charge, after taking a stolen vehicle for a joy ride. Robby Clemon, 46, was arrested on July 5th, for felony theft over $5,000, and has a felony status hearing on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. On July 5th, a report came in of a vehicle being stolen from an apartment complex on Pershing Road. The vehicle was later located in a parking lot just off 25th Street and 32nd Avenue. A manager from a nearby store, showed police video surveillance of a man walking in front of the store with what appeared to be keys in his hand. The manager, and several employees, identified the man as, Clemon, who was a former employee of the store. The store manager told police that Clemon is not allowed in the store, after previously being caught shoplifting. Police went to Clemon's apartment, and he admitted to taking the vehicle. Clemon told police he was walking to a local store, when he saw the keys inside the vehicle and decided to go for a joy ride. Clemon's charge is a class 2A felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
