Jefferson County declares state of emergency

JEFFERSON COUNTY, NE (Tommy Rezac / News Channel Nebraska) – In southeast Nebraska, Jefferson County declared a state of emergency Friday morning.

While Jefferson and Thayer County didn’t see the worst of the flooding, the biggest concern in this area are gravel roads. With repeated snow removal, a lot of the gravel has been taken off the roads, making them even softer. County commissionerMark Schoenrock says they’ve identified every road in the county that needs attention.

Maintenance on county roads has already begun, and it could take a few months before everything’s completely back to normal. A number of area bus and mail routes were suspended this week until roads become more passable.
