Investigators: Herd With Bovine TB Appears to Have Avoided Contact With Neighbors

LINCOLN - So far, it appears a recent diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis in north central Nebraska is limited to a single herd. Officials with the Department of Agriculture said in a statement Thursday that a Wheeler County herd remains quarantined after a cow tested positive for bovine TB last month. They say investigators have so far found no evidence that the infected herd had no fence line contact with other hers, so as of now a quarantine of neighboring cattle farms is not necessary. The infected cow was discovered as part of an investigation of another infected herd in South Dakota. Investigators say cattle dispersed from the South Dakota herd last year all appear to currently be in feedlot settings and are all being monitored. Any producer who thinks they see symptoms of bovine TB in their herd is urged to contact their local veterinarian.
