Identities of dead and injured in crash near Plainview are released

The name of the man who died in a head-on collision near Plainview, Nebraska, on Tuesday has been released.

Chris L. Lerum, 80, of Creighton, was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday when it crashed into a Jeep two miles south of Plainview on Nebraska Highway 13, Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt said.

A mother and daughter in a 2014 Jeep Grand Limited, Katherine Hrbek, 51, and Alexis Hrbek, 19, both of Verdigre, were trapped in their vehicle.

Alexis Hrbek, who was driving, was taken to the Plainview Hospital by Plainview Rescue. Katherine Hrbek was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Lerum was pronounced dead at the scene.
