Hyannis Community Donates $23,000 to Gielissen Family

HYANNIS—Weeks after a tragic car accident that left 18-year-old Trystin Gielissen (click here to view support page on Facebook) with a serious brain injury, the community came together to raise funds for the family. In July, Hyannis football coach Lance Braun presented a $23,000 check to Vicki Imig, mother of Trystin. On June 20, recent Hyannis High School graduate and football player Trystin was on his way to Albion for the Nebraska-Wyoming Six-Man All-Star Shootout game when he was in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 2 east of Mullen. Hooker County Sheriff Wynn Wiens told KCNI/KBBN that the 18-year-old Hyannis man was taken via life flight to a Kearney hospital in critical condition after the “near head-on” collision. The Trystin Gielissen Fundraiser group and the community put on an FFA spaghetti feed, a Facebook fundraiser, sold #GILLYSTRONG t-shirts, and also had a fundraiser auction and 3-on-3 basketball tournament last month to help the family with medical expenses and show their support. Mother Vicki Hoecher Imig posted the following on Facebook on July 29: "It has been a while since I have posted about Trystin Gielissen. We have made the transition to Colorado, which has been a good thing for all of us. He continues to stay strong and make progress. It is slow, as we know it would be. His brain needs to continue healing and we need to take each day at a time. I won't lie that we have had many challenges, frustrations and tears along the way.
